Love Untested … Tested!

Avanti I have been a successful war correspondent. It’s difficult to be a woman and yet maintain your professional dignity in what is primarily an occupation dominated by men. Eight years ago, in my mid-forties, I had successfully made use of my contacts to become a free lance journalist and specialized in interviewing celebrities … or let’s say “achievers in today’s world”. Due to my profession, I had to be away from my husband Avi frequently. He hated it each time I packed for a trip. He had taken early retirement and was happy spending time with a charity. He wanted me to take it easy and shun all travel. I know he meant well and that we needed to spend more time together, but I chose to continue with the path that I had chosen. The children had grown up, I was still getting recognition in the media, so I found no reason to convince myself to “settle down”. RD’s “Baap Ka Maal”! Some time ago, Vividh Bharti carried a series titled Meri Sangeet Yatra in its Sangeet Sarita programme at 7:30 AM. It featured conversations between R D Burman, Gulzar and Asha Bhosle. During one such episode he mentioned that he has used some of his fathers tunes. He used the phrase, “Baap Ka Maal”. Here is a link to that  https://youtu.be/IhwpUzi-8rk With that as reference point, I’ve selected some songs that are originally created by Sachin Dev Burman and adapted by RD in his music. Some are popular and some not very well known. Let me start with Kinaara . Thinking of Kinaara I can’t help mentioning “Why does Gulzar give that weird moustache to Jeetendra in all his films? Kinaara, Parichay , Khushboo – all of them have Jeetendra with that weird moustache. As mentioned by RD in the Vividh Bharti programme the first song is from Kinaara. Ab Ke Na Saawan Barse by Lata Mangeshkar - https://youtu.be/RrZcovsvevM And the original by S D Burma
