Dil Dhoondta Hai This is a fairly longish post, but with lots of trivia! दिल ढूँढता है फिर वही फ़ुरसत के रात दिन बैठे रहे तसव्वुर - ए - जानाँ किये हुए The heart seeks some days and nights of leisure Just sitting around with thoughts of the beloved तसव्वुर = खयाल जानाँ = Beloved In Gulzar’s own words , “मिसरा ग़ालिब का है कैफियत हम सब की”. The poet TS Eliot had described plagiarism in poetry in the following words: “Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal; bad poets deface what they take, and good poets make it into something better, or at least something different”. Gulzar picked up Ghalib’s words, replaced the जी with दिल and completely changed the the meaning of the lyrics!
