Shivneri trip

Image
The statue in the Shiv-Mandir Aundh - Nashik Phata – Bhosari – Chakan – Rajgurunagar (Khed) – Manchar – Narayangaon – Junnar – Shivneri Pune to Narayangaon: 75 kms This time we planned our trip to Shivneri. We left Aundh at 6.45 am and reached the Old Mumbai-Pune highway near Harris bridge at Bopodi. From there we followed the highway till Kasarwadi and took a right turn at Nashik Phata. The road is quite crowded because of the industrial town on the way. The people in Bhosari, Moshi, Chakan are so used to the highway that they carry a notion that basic traffic rules are not to be followed. So you encounter people going the wrong way in full speed. They also don’t mind to stop suddenly, turn abruptly and even manage to hold discussions in the middle of the road. There is no point in honking the horn as they are oblivious to it. Here we realise that India is indeed a free country and everyone is free to do whatever they want wherever they are. Rajguru Nagar is another place on the way. ...

Shivthar Ghal chi trip

Image
Shivthar Ghal - I would describe "Ghal" as a horizontal crevice in the mountain. Shivthar Ghal is 20 mts long and 15 mts broad. This was the place where Samarth Ramdas wrote "Dasbodh". It is situated in Raigad district just below the Varandh ghat near the border of Pune and Raigad. It gets its name from the river Shivthar that plunges several hundred feet into the Konkan. At the base of this water fall and behind the curtain of water is Shivthar Ghal. One can enter the hall where Ramdas Swami sat, prayed and dictated Dasbodh to Kalyan Swami. Shivthar ghal can be divided in three parts. One of these has statues of Samarth Ramdas and Kalyan Swami. Shivthar Ghal is a very s...

Trip to Maval Srushti

Image
On 22nd December 2006 all of us (the entire family) were at Maval Shrusti. http://www.mavalsrushti.com/ Aditya and Akshay - These guys enjoyed the most! Its like a private mini hill station. It is situated at a very convenient distance from Pune. It lies in the vicinity of the scenic Pavna dam and the Tamhini forest. From Pune, one has to proceed to the PAUD village, via the well known 'Chandani Chowk' and Pirangut road. After reaching the Paud bus terminus, a right turn followed by a compact road leads the visitor to the Kolwan village. An arch sign naming Kolwan village is easily visible. Crossing the arch and following the steep road leads the visitor straight Maval Srushti. The total distance from Pune is close to 40 kilometers. We took Appa's and my car. Before going to Maval Srushti one has to do booking else the place may get full and they may not allow inside. One of the forest trail - There ought to be more posts indicating directions. The Concept of Maval Srushti...

Trip and road to Sajjangad, Thoseghar & Chalkewadi

Image
This is about our visit to Thoseghar. This trip was also unplanned as most of our other trips. We left at 7.30am in our Indica Turbo DLG. Satara is about 2 hours drive from Pune. Sajjangad another 30 mins beyond , followed by Thoseghar another 20 mins and Chalkewadi further 20mins. We took the Aundh - Pashan - Chandani Chowk - bypass highway through the new Katraj tunnel and then on the Mumbai - Bangalore highway. Enroute we filled up diesel at the Reliance outlet. The entire road is in excellent condition and full marks to the authorities. We entered Satara at about 9.30 am. Since we diddn't know the directions to Sajjangad we asked the locals and got prompt reply. We took the road to the Rajwada and reached the chowk that has the miniature Effiel Tower. Here there is an arch that tells the direction to Thoseghar, Sajjangad and Chalewadi. We followd the road till we reached the "Bogda". This is a very small tunnel in the mountain. Took a right turn and were on the route ...
