Trip and road to Sajjangad, Thoseghar & Chalkewadi

This is about our visit to Thoseghar. This trip was also unplanned as most of our other trips. We left at 7.30am in our Indica Turbo DLG. Satara is about 2 hours drive from Pune. Sajjangad another 30 mins beyond , followed by Thoseghar another 20 mins and Chalkewadi further 20mins.
We took the Aundh - Pashan - Chandani Chowk - bypass highway through the new Katraj tunnel and then on the Mumbai - Bangalore highway. Enroute we filled up diesel at the Reliance outlet.

The entire road is in excellent condition and full marks to the authorities. We entered Satara at about 9.30 am. Since we diddn't know the directions to Sajjangad we asked the locals and got prompt reply. We took the road to the Rajwada and reached the chowk that has the miniature Effiel Tower. Here there is an arch that tells the direction to Thoseghar, Sajjangad and Chalewadi. We followd the road till we reached the "Bogda". This is a very small tunnel in the mountain.

Took a right turn and were on the route to Sajjangad. This road is not very good. It is narrow and has many turns. Following the road we took a small ghat. Midway there is a right turn for sajjangad and the road straight ahed leads to Thoseghar and Chalkewadi.

We reached Sajjangad at about 10.45am, had darshan of the samadhi took some photos and then started on the way to Thosegahar. This entire road is covered with trees and it would be a treat to be here in the Monsoons. Thoseghar is about 15mins from the Sajjangad phata. We did not note down more logs on this trip as my co-drivers were too busy loking at the scenery!

There is a small hotel (rather a shack) at Thoseghar. You can get veg as well as non veg thali over here. There is a road that goes behind this shack. Thats the one that leads to the Thoseghar falls. There is a balcony built from where one can safely see the falls.

At Thoseghar

I was not sure of seeing the water actually fall as it was Februaury, but was plesantly surprised to see the water fall albeit in a reduced form. The scene is fantastic. It is a sheer cliff of about 450 feet (that's almost as tall as a 40 storey building).

I am going to be back here in the monsoons.

We then went to Chalkewadi. This is about 5kms from the Thoseghar falls. This spot is famous for the windmills. There are more than 100 windmills on the plateau of Chalkewadi. We could not see any hotels in Chalkewadi. We could not spend too much time here though as we had to be back in Pune by 5pm.

Overall it was a nice and refreshing experience. My Indica delivered an average of 18.6 kmpl. I think its good considering we consistently drove on the highway at about 100kmph.
