Paradhin Aahe Jagati Putra Manavacha

People generally look at Ramayan from a religious point of view. I view Ramayan from a different perspective. Its about human tragedies of epic proportions. Its about the hardships a mature human endures.
This song is Ram's way of consoling and counselling his step brother who is angry at the craftiness of his own mother. He seeks forgivenes and asks Ram to return to Ayodhya and and not proceed to 14 years of exile. Every stanza of this long ten stanza song, brings forth a different truth (some may call it philosophy) of life. Like the first says "None to be blamed, all happens as a result of our past deeds and misdeeds". Yet another stanza says birth and death are those realities of life that no one can avoid. The next says "Death is the eternal truth ... all logic stops its door step".

Its about a rightful heir to the throne having to leave the kingdom and make way for his youngest step brother to be the king. This is a forced sacrifice that he must make.
Its also about anguish of a young prince who refuses to sit on the throne and insists that his step brother has a right to it.
Its about the hardships a man has to endure when his wife is kidnapped in the forests and has to wage a war to have her back.
Its about the predicament that despite winning the war, the man has to abandon his wife just to make good political visuals.
Its also about the twist of fate when the upright king has to wage a war against his own children.
Ramayan is a tragedy that Shakespeare would have loved to write. My sense is that it has more literature value than Othello and Hamlet.

The profound philosophy of life that this song puts across in such simple language makes it poignant. With Bharat reaching out to Ram in the forest to convince him to return to the throne, the song is situational, but then it delves into human insecurities and fears. This song makes one aware of our own inadequacies and insufficiencies. There is no way we can stop the passage of time or change one’s own destiny.

Amazing outstanding lyrics. It has taken me 50 years to understand the lyrics. Its foolish to even attempt to translate this classic philosophical note, yet for the benefit of my non-Marathi friends I am committing this mistake.

If suffering is what God intends for you, no one is to be blamed

Man is only slave to his destiny in this world, no one is to be blamed

Neither is mother Kaikeyi nor is our father is at fault
Giving up the kingdom and going to the forest is a result of my actions
These are the fruits of my (mis?)deeds

Whatever rises has to bite the dust in this world
Whatever one accumulates my brother, ultimately perishes
Coming together just to part away is the way of this world

Whatever is born, dies .... birth and death are paired together
Whatever one beholds in this universe ultimately goes away
Why do you mourn naively for what is merely an illusion in a dream

Our father passed away and you dear brother meets me in this forest
Although sudden, it is not incomprehensible
But even the wise are confounded at the thought of death

Has any living being escaped the ravages of old age and death
Has anyone ever lived free of sorrow
Whatever once thrives has to waste away

Like two logs that come together in the ocean
A wave is all it takes to part them away forever
Ephemeral are bonds between people my brother

Don't shed your tears, wipe your eyes
You and I have to traverse different paths
You are destined to rule Ayodhya, while I'm a vagrant of these forests

Its futile of you to insist on my returning
Let us instead be blessed and fulfill the promise to our father
It is irrelevant if one dresses up with a crown & armour or as an ascetic

Without the passing of these fourteen years
The truth remains that I will not enter Ayodhya
You are the ruler of the kingdom now

None of you should ever come back to these forests
Your love will always remain in my heart
You rule honourably and increase the respect of Ayodhya
Man is only slave to his destiny in this world, no one is to be blamed
