Ya Mustafa Has Seventeen Versions!

Ya Mustafa Has Seventeen Versions!

It was in early 80’s that my romance with RD Burman’s music started to peak. It was during those days that I heard the classic from Sanam teri kasam – Dekhta Hoon Koi Ladki Haseen sung by Kishore Kumar. Amazing song with contemporary feet tapping music.

A decade down the line in 1994 came a terrible film called Aaatish starring Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon. It had equally forgettable music by Nadeem Shravan. There was one song that somehow stuck - Meri Muhobat Ka Tu Gawah. It was sung by Jolly Mukherjee, Mukul Aggarwal & Alka Yagnik . This was very similar to the one from Sanam Teri Kasam.

Nadeem Shravan are well known for lifting Pakistani songs. So I started my own research and I was absolutely amazed at the number of versions of this song! So sit back and read along to discover that this song has not one or two but 17 versions!!

This is the story-

It started in 1958 when Muhammed Fawzy composed the original song in Eygpt in 1960. It was sung by Bob Azzam . Here is the ORIGINAL Mustafa!

1960 and we started hearing many versions of this song. Sachin Dev Burman used this tune in Bewaqoof in 1960 for the Mohd. Rafi song - Hum Toh Hain Tum Par Dil Se Fida
