Another song inspiring more - Tum Meri Zindagi Mein

The next song in the series one Song Many Versions is Tum Meri Zindagi Mein from Bombay To Goa. The story as told by Dinesh Shailendra is that Shailendra had written two songs for Guru Dutt’s Raaz. This film never saw the daylight as it was shelved midway. (Guru Dutt suspected that his assistant Niranjan who was directing the film was not doing it right!)

Pancham re-recorded this song for Bombay To Goa. However, this song was credited to Rajinder Krishna (who penned the lyrics of other songs for that film). Shailendra protested and threatened action after which the song was removed from the film. This way the song again never saw the daylight!

Here is another version of the same song from Bombay To Goa.

The original song was Terry’s Theme from Charlie Chaplin’s Limelight (1952) and won the Oscar for the best dramatic score in 1973

Mantovani adapted the tune to create this version

Salil Choudhary used this tune to create his version for Dev Anand’s Maya (1961) – Zindagi Hain Kya Sun Meri Jaan sung by Mohd. Rafi, lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri

Salil da used the same tune to create another version in Bengali

Years later RD Burman rehashed the same tune in Mukti (1977) – Main Jo Chala Peekar sung by Kishore and Asha, lyrics by Anand Bakshi.

Like Salil da, RD created a Bengali version in 1991 for Debota (Ki Kore Jaanle Tumi) sung by Amit Kumar penned by Pulak Bandopadhyay

The last version that I know has been created by Rajesh Roshan (Ye Raat Ye Tanhaiyaan) for Gunaah (1993) sung by Amit Kumar and Sadhana Sargam, lyrics by Payam Sayeedi
